Tankham Vongxay, age 75, passed away on Friday, November 5, 2021 at Mercy Medical Center, Des Moines, Iowa.

Tankham was born on January 10, 1946 in Oudomxay, Laos. She was the third child among eight children. She left the Thai refugee camp at the end of 1979 with her children and resettled in Des Moines, Iowa in early 1980 with the rest of her family. She worked hard to provide for her family so that they could afford a better life.

Tankham was a homemaker and enjoyed caring for her younger siblings and grandchildren. She was always insistent in ensuring all her loved ones were fed. She also enjoyed food and had a big appetite. She was very headstrong and maintained everything she cleaned was immaculate. Tankham was also a lifetime member of the Lao American Association of Iowa. She regularly donated to the temple Nasao near her birthplace in Oudomxay, Laos.

Her other hobbies included traveling with her brothers and sisters, cooking, cleaning, and gardening.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Peng and Kong Vongnhay; and beloved husband, Sisavath Manirathsamay.

She is lovingly survived by her children, Visith (DaVone) Vongxay and Vivanh (Somphiane) Vongsa both of Des Moines; grandchildren, Morina Vongsa, Monalisa Vongsa, Tiger Vongxay, Katie Vongxay, Austin Vongxay and Alina Vongxay; siblings, Souraphong Vongnhay of Canada, Kingkham Douansavanh of Laos, Khanthalay Manirath of Des Moines, Venthip Saengcheam of Thailand, Phatsalay Baccam, Souksay Vongnhay, and Niramoun Philavanh all of Des Moines.

Prayers will be held from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 10, 2021 held at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, November 11, 2021 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines.
