Carol VanderLinden, 77, passed away on November 2, 2021, at Valley View Village in Des Moines. She was born in Des Moines, IA the daughter of Raymond and Betty Webb on May 2, 1944.
Carol graduated from East High School in 1961 and the American Academy of Beauty in 1963. In December of 1963, Carol married the love of her life Marc. Carol was a homemaker and did clerical work throughout her life until purchasing Van Dee’s Ice Cream Shop in Johnston. She owned and operated the ice cream shop from March of 1990 until April of 2013.
Carol had a knack for baking and cooking with an ability to pull off recreating any recipe. Her awesome cinnamon rolls and Dutch letters were always a hit. She would put out a little wooden sign at the shop when the Dutch letters were available and they would be gone in an instant. Her beef burger recipe was another one that people loved.
Carol had a passion for flowers with an amazing green thumb. Her flowers would bloom all summer long. She enjoyed crafting and sewing, and had a special cabinet at home where she stored all the supplies she needed for any project.
Carol is survived by her husband, Marc; children, Rick VanderLinden and Jill VanderLinden; grandchildren, Dharma, Valis and Serius VanderLinden; brother, Dale Webb. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Ray, Lenny and Lois.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Thursday, November 11, 2021, at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines.

So sad to see of Carols passing. Wasn't all that long ago when I ran into her at the Fareway grocery store and we talked for almost an hour.. She gave me her phone number and we were going to hook up and go to lunch. Feel bad that it didn't happen. My son Neal worked at Vandees one of his first jobs. Carol just loved him and he always said she was great to work for. Thoughts and prayers to the family.

VanderLinden family: thinking of you in this difficult time. I loved working at Vandees and was so grateful that Carol hired me for my first job! She was an amazing cook and woman. She definitely taught me work ethic. Her legacy lives on and I think of her often. Much love

Dear Uncle Marc, Rick, Jill and families; I will always cherish my times spent with Aunt Carol. She taught me to bake, and much more throughout my life. I will cherish my memories of her spending time with me as a child, and our trips to Pella, the tea house, and the casino with my mom and grandma. She was always supportive of me and always positive. She was always there for her "family". One of my best memories is when she turned her Christmas Tree into a "Birthday" tree for me on Christmas day one year when I was young in your basement, and all the lessons in baking. I will truly miss her. Love and Hugs to you all.
