Service Details

Wayne Hansen, 69, of Cumming, Iowa passed away October 30, 2021 at Hospice Care at Bright Kavanaugh Center in Des Moines. Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines.

Wayne was born at Atlantic Memorial hospital on February 13, 1952 to Derward and Darlene Hansen. He attended Exira Community Schools and graduated in 1970. Shortly after graduating, he moved to Des Moines where he entered an electrical apprenticeship program. In 1972, Wayne married his high school sweetheart, Tamara Jacobsen in Exira, IA. Two children were born to this union, their son Justin in 1974 and daughter Mindy in 1976. While completing his apprenticeship, Wayne worked for several electrical contractors in the Des Moines area. In 1983, he founded Control Installations of Iowa (CI3).

Wayne valued each and every one of his employees and considered them all family. In 2011, Automatic Door Group (ADG) joined the CI3 family. After retiring in 2018, Wayne enjoyed tinkering in his workshop and traveling, often off the beaten path to find a hidden gem. He also enjoyed his yearly trips to Okoboji, cheering on the Hawkeyes, watching “The Curse of Oak Island”, Holidays with family and enjoying fine wine and good conversation with friends. But most of all, he loved spending time with his two grandchildren whom he adored.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 49 years, Tamara; his daughter, Mindy and grandchildren, Molly Dudley and Henry Dudley; mother, Darlene Hansen; sisters, Jolene Andresen (Clay), Becky Rold (Mark), Cristie Knudsen, Janelle Hunicutt (Ken); brother, Craig (Tracey); many nieces, nephews, aunts, and cousins; and countless friends and love ones that will forever miss him.

He is preceded in death by his son, Justin; father, Derward; parents-in-law, John Henry and Agnes Jacobsen; and brother-in-law, Paul Knudsen.
Wayne will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Jordan Cemetery in West Des Moines at a later date.
