Marcella Sage

Service Details

Marsha and I (Roger and I) are sad to announce the passing our mother Marcella. She had been in in declining health for some time, but Covid invaded the long-term facility she was staying in. She was ready to go for some time and lived a decade in constant pain with regular pain killers.

IN 1965 at the age of 24, she married our father Kenneth and gained an 8-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl. I'll let you guess their names. She worked for many years in the X-ray department at Mercy Hospital, where she met the future Brenda Sage.

In the middle 1990's she began a multi-year interest in genealogy and tracked an extensive history of her Kromminga and Mulder roots. She corresponded with multiple distant relatives in Germany and Holland and compiled extensive documentation. She was a lifelong photographer and left many albums of pictures of friends and family. She and our father owned the Dairy Queen in Ankeny for multiple years. She could always make the dairy queen curl on the top of the cone, with eyes shut, but our father never mastered that task. Prior to retirement she worked at Enterprise Car rental.

Her lifelong passion was truly the Animal Rescue League. As adults, once we left the "nest" the dogs became the loving replacements. She worked for many years at the Planned Parenthood Annual Book sale at the Fairgrounds.

Truly in today’s world,

After death, you understand the things you thought were important, actually weren't.
and
After death, your soul rejoins loved ones who died before you.

Marcella was never afraid to voice her views and opinions. In her yearbook from Ackley High School in 1960 someone wrote, "Marcella could come out with green hair, we never really knew what she would do next." She honored family roots.

Memorials can be sent to Animal Rescue League of Iowa.

Private family services will be held at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens.

Condolences may be expressed online at: www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.
