Leland Max Hill

CW2, USA Retired, Leland Max Hill, died on Thursday October 28, 2021.
Leland was born on January 27, 1944 in Oakland, CA to Lloyd G. and Lorraine (McLean) Hill. Leland joined the Army in January 1961 spending time in the 2nd and 4th Armored Cavalry Regiments and as a paratrooper with the 173rd, 101st, and 82nd Airborne.
Leland met his wife of 50 years Doris (Aust) while both were stationed at Ft. Sheridan, IL., and had four children, Lane (Johanna) Hill, Lawrence Hill, Leonard Hill GySgt USMC (Ret.), and Deborah (Chad) Swigert; grandchildren, Travis, David, Parker, Samuel, Mattison, Ella, Chloe, and Isolde; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Kash, and Brian; siblings, Tony (Dee) Hill and Melody (Chris) Brewer; and close family friends, Arlene (Jeff) Heng and Adrienne Lashley.
He was proceeded in death by wife, Doris; parents, Lloyd G. and Dorleece Hill; siblings, Lloyd A., Lane and Lawrence Hill; and his trusty canine companion, Captain Nemo.
Leland was an avid athletic supporter of his Alma Mater, Grand View University as well as Notre Dame, Drake University, and Des Moines East High spending several days a week attending football, volleyball, and women’s basketball games.
The family will greet friends on Friday, November 5th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway with interment of remains to follow on Monday, November 8th at 11:00 a.m. at the Iowa Veteran’s Cemetery in Van Meter, IA.

Doris will be happy to have him by her side once again. Two of the best people I ever met. My condolences to Lane, Lawrence, Leonard and Debbie and their families.

Lawrence, Debbie, Lane and Leonard . You all have been in my heart and prayers for the loss of your Dad. I am honored that I got to meet Lee and to know him and he was a great guy and he loved you all so much and Izzy as well. He will be missed. God Bless
