Dr. Roger Dixon Nyberg was born in Decatur, IL on September 28, 1944, to Larry and Betty Nyberg. He passed away at his home with his wife by his side on October 27, 2021, at the age of 77.

In 1957 he, his parents, and his younger sister Paula moved to Bettendorf, Iowa. He graduated from Bettendorf High School in 1962. He attended Augustana College where he studied pre-med. He then went on to Bradley where he was in a co-op program with Caterpillar.

He was drafted into the Army in 1967 and served in a medical unit in Vietnam. He was proud to be in the Legendary Black Horse Regiment. He always said it was the worst time and the best time of his life.

After discharge from the Army, he went to Palmer Chiropractic College and graduated in 1972. He joined Dr. Whitten’s practice in Des Moines until he opened his own office is 1979. He was a gifted Chiropractor with many grateful patients. He had a true calling and loved his work, his patients, and those who worked for him. Dr. Nyberg retired in 2017.

He met his wife, Arlene Swartz, in 1974. They married in 1977, he was married for 44 years. He was blessed with a devoted, loving wife and a very happy home life. They were blessed with a daughter, Annie, in 1983.

He had a passion for all things car, especially Sunbeam Tigers and owned several. Working on the cars was his hobby. He passed on that love to his daughter Annie.

He was a member of the I.C.S., ACA, NW Des Moines Rotary, The American Legion, and several car clubs.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene, his daughter Annie, 4 grandchildren Angelia (20), Gage (13), Bella (11), and Gavin (4), his sister Paula (Dale) Schrad, his sister-in-law Beverly Stevens, brother-in-law John Swartz, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Gordon Stevens.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines. Visitation will be from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the family for a charity of Roger’s choice.

He is eternally loved and eternally missed.
