Service Details

Gladys Thompson, 88, passed away Thursday, October 15, 2009 at Fountain West Care Center. Funeral services are planned for Thursday, October 22, 2009 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral.

Gladys was born July 5, 1921 in Middle Brough, England the daughter of George and Hilda (Wall) Gill. Gladys served in the British Army during WW II as a cook for the officers. While serving in the British Army she met and married her husband, Merle Thompson.

She had many hobbies including cooking, reading, crossword puzzles, shopping, ballroom dancing and watching television, especially British shows along with the Lawrence Welk Show.

Gladys is survived by two grandchildren, Liana (Dustin) Jones of Urbandale and Luke Gerstenberger of Des Moines; two great-grandchildren, Cameryn Daly and Josie Jones.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Carol Carter, son Clinton Thompson, two brothers and one sister.

A memorial has been established and contributions may be made at the funeral home.
