Robert Hopkins

Robert Duane Hopkins, 78, passed away on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at Crestridge Care Center in Maquoketa. He was born January 28, 1943 to Ralph and Nellie (Jones) Hopkins in Des Moines.

Robert worked at Babe’s Restaurant and Bishop’s Restaurant before starting his 30 year career at Delavan’s. Afterwards, he worked at Krispy Krust Bakery and EMCO. Robert enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was an avid all around sports fan, always rooting for his favorite teams – Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs, and especially the Green Bay Packers.

Robert always enjoyed catching up with his family, talking on the phone for hours, like a teenager.

Robert is survived by his children, Bobby (Jodi) Hopkins, Angie (Val) Hopkins, and Tisha (Clayton) Jacobe; grandchildren, Alex (Zach) Charikov, Andy Hopkins, Peyton Jacobe, and Brooklynn Jacobe; great-grandchildren, Reese and Hayes Charikov; sisters, Naomi Jean Speck and Joann Gonzales; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and several siblings.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street, Altoona. A graveside service will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 7601 Fleur Drive, Des Moines.
