William "Billy" Joseph Sample II
October 25, 2021
Billy Sample was born in Des Moines, Iowa on October 17, 1958 to William “Bill” & Elizabeth “Liz” Sample. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on October 25, 2021.
After high school, Billy joined the United States Navy and served his country with pride. He had a successful career at Curtis Wood Roofing and he was the best. In his youth, he was a talented baseball/softball player and an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Billy really enjoyed playing pool and played on city pool leagues in Des Moines throughout his life.
Billy had numerous friends because he never met a stranger. He could walk into any bar and would always know someone there. He will be fondly remembered & greatly admired as one of the few people who had a consistent, positive attitude and outlook on life which was unwavering. He was so talented and had a quick wit about him without missing a beat. Billy loved to make people laugh & smile at which he was very successful. Billy was a simple man, who is loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Billy is survived by his wife, Nancy, daughter Elizabeth "Liz" (Adam) Gardner, step-daughter Amanda (Robert) Hunter, sister Sandi (Bob) Stradley, brothers Robert "Bob" (Linda) Sample, and Joseph "Joe" Sample. Also, three grandchildren Payton, Addison and Jaxon along with nephews; B.J. Stradley, Bobby Sample, Jr., and nieces; Bobbie Dennis, Kailie Morrow as well as many cousins, family members & friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill & Liz.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Billy on Saturday, November 27 from 1:00 - 4:00 PM at the AMVETS Post 2, 2818 5th Ave, Des Moines, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to family in c/o Elizabeth "Liz" Sample-Gardner.

I am just now hearing about Billys passing. Billy and I went to school together and reconnected this past summer when I hired him to put a roof on my house and garage. He did the garage by himself and did exceptional work.He found a toy Harley Davidson in my garage and loved it so much I had to give it to him. He left behind good work

Wow what can I say Billy? First cancer sucks. Liz I never got to meet u but Im so sorry for the loss of your dad. To Bobby, Sandy, and Joey the memories with Billy and your whole family will always be in my heart. All my memories with Billy are great ones but the one that always sticks out is when we were sitting at my house and he started sing the song bullfrog and asked me how I liked it cuz he wrote it. He had me there at first. He just was that kind of person. He was my best boy friend back then but life took off. (Yes we played pool against each other in league) Billy u will always have a place in my heart. Much love to all of u at this sad time.
