Anne Hodina
October 19, 2021
Anne Hodina, 74, passed away October 19, 2021, in the exact way she had wanted: she fell asleep with her son and daughter holding her hands while sharing stories and laughing. Visitation will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA on Saturday, October 30th from 12 to 2 p.m.
Anne was born March 18, 1947, in Eldora, IA. After attending Ellsworth Junior College, she moved to Des Moines with her two friends, Val and Jiggs whom she remained best friends with for over 60 years. In 2016, Anne retired as a front desk receptionist at Children and Families of Iowa. She dreamed of working behind-the-scenes in Hollywood and loved movies, music, and books, almost as much as she loved her family and friends. 2022 would have marked her 50th year as a proud member of the Kappa Chi chapter of the Phi Tau Omega Philanthropic Sorority. Many thanks to Vicki Eft for her friendship and help in caring for Mom the last few years.
Preceded in death by her parents and sister; Anne will be greatly missed by her son, Shadley Grei, and daughter, Julie Gonzalez, both of Des Moines; son-in-law, Jim Gonzalez; grandchildren, Marissa, Kailee, Dallas, and Diego; her Kappa Chi and Phi Tau Omega sisters, extended family, and countless friends.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family for distribution to Anne’s favorite charities.

On behalf of the Scoonover familyAnne was a part of our lives and will always be in our hearts. She was one of Jiggs best friends and thus, was a regular part of our lives too. As both are now gone from our lives, I cannot express how deeply saddened we are at your loss. But perhaps the sharing of our memories can lift your spirits and make your smile. Ill never forget the countless lunches I shared with these two fabulous ladies. Their laughter together was like two teenagers gossiping. It always made me smile. Whenever Anne would visit the house on 43rd they would share a coffee and share their week. To this day, I marvel at Annes personal strength. She obviously was in pain some days, but she NEVER let that stop her from living. May God grant us the same fortitude that Anne exhibited.
