Jeffrey Peter Doornenbal
October 16, 2021
Jeff Doornenbal, age 66, passed away at home on Saturday, October 16, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. He died peacefully surrounded by the love and comfort of his family.
Jeff was born August 25, 1955 in Des Moines, Iowa to Arvin and Doris (Anderson) Doornenbal. He worked at Firestone for many years and was a Past President of Local 310. Throughout the years, little league was a huge part of his life. He spent many days at the ballfields at Fairground Little League. Jeff played in his younger years and coached as he got older. One of his greatest joys was being able to coach his brothers and nephew and share his love of the game with them. He loved tinkering in his garage and had a knack for fixing anything and everything. Jeff was always “just a phone call away”. He would drop whatever he was doing immediately to help a friend or family member in need, no matter what the problem was. He never missed his grandchildren’s activities and was always their biggest supporter and fan. Above all else, Jeff treasured time spent with his family.
He is survived by his daughters, Amy Kelly and Lori Goodwin; his grandchildren, Madison Kelly, and Taylor and Kyle Goodwin; his brothers, Mark (Sandy), David (Reenie), and Dan (Kendra) Doornenbal; numerous nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and many special friends.
Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, Arvin and Doris Doornenbal.
Services will be held at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, October 25, 2021. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 26, 2021, and will be followed by cremation. There will be a reception at the Elks Lodge in Pleasant Hill after the service.
