Gregory D. Crooks
October 14, 2021
Gregory Dean Crooks, age 58, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, October 14, 2021.
Greg was born October 7, 1963 in Des Moines, Iowa to Thomas and Judy Crooks. He proudly served in the U. S. Army. Greg started A Notch Above Tree Service in 2005 and continued until the present. He enjoyed all kinds of music and was an exceptional cook. His specialties included Italian stuffed meatloaf and enchiladas. He was a talented pool player, and enjoyed darts and playing golf. He was not, however, a very good baseball player.
Greg was a jack-of-all-trades and he could “MacGyver” anything. He was always lucky at playing the slots and scratch-off tickets. He was engaged to the love of his life, Stephany, and was the happiest he had been in a long time. He had a great sense of humor and was a prankster. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his fiancée, Stephany Yeakey-Hill; daughter, Charisma (Justin) Langford; grandchildren, Weston and Augustus Langford; mother, Judy Breese; siblings, Randy (Michele Carter) Crooks and Julie Crooks; and several nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.
Greg was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Crooks; step-father, Rocky Breese; step-mother, Kathy Crooks; sister, Katie Crooks; and longtime friend, Bill “Langford” Evins.
There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, November 6, 2021 beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the Wicked Rabbit, 1101 Army Post Road, Des Moines, Iowa 50315.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the family to be used for medical expenses.
Condolences may be expressed at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.

Sorry for your loss. Greg was a good man I would talk to him when I mowed his neighbors yards. We didnt care that my husband also cuts trees. He was always helpful to his neighbors. He will be missed.
