Service Details

David Allen Mack was in the comfort of his own home, surrounded by his loved ones, when they took another angel home. He was 73.

David was born to Dale and LaVonne (Passick) Mack on January 24, 1948 in Des Moines, Iowa. After graduating from Abraham Lincoln High School, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy, completing a tour of duty in Vietnam. Upon returning home, he went to work for Northwest Bell Telephone Co. working outside where he loved to be until he retired after 30 years of service. Not one to sit idle, he founded The Dirt Doctor, LLC. so he could play in the dirt and make a little money at the same time. He played for several years, only stopping a year or so ago when it was too tiring for him and even then he still putzed around. His positive attitude throughout his fight, without a doubt added more years to his life experience. It was admirable and he inspired us closest to him that life is worth everything, good or bad. He was a good man, husband, brother, uncle, grandfather and above all the best dad a girl could ask for. Everyone who knew him will never forget what a truly remarkable person he was.

David is survived by his wife of 42 years, Lynette, his daughter Jennifer (Justin) Hutton, granddaughter Sydney Hutton, two adopted grandkids, Leah and Brock, his sisters Sheryl Comegys and Patty Smith, sister in law Linda Mack as well as several nieces and nephews all who loved Uncle Dave and he them, a great deal. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and LaVonne, his brother Denny Mack and brother in law Ron Comegys. As David had wished, he will be cremated with no services at this time. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

My mom and I would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Hospice of the Midwest for taking such wonderful care of my dad at the end of his life journey. As well as helping us both get through those last days with courage and understanding. All involved, please know we are forever grateful for everything you did for all three of us.
