Service Details

Rusty Lainson was born in Des Moines, IA to Carol and Richard C. Lainson Jr. on June 10, 1959. Also anxiously awaiting his arrival, were his sister Cheri and his brother Rick.

Rusty grew up learning how to hunt and fish at an early age, and that is something that he continued to enjoy throughout his life. Spending time in nature was his sanctuary and wild turkey hunting was a passion.

He was proud of his Native American Heritage and he had a natural gift with animals. The combination of these traits led to his active membership in the National Wild Turkey Federation, and a period of employment with the Animal Rescue League. Rusty really understood animals. The more frightened or aggressive an animal was, the more Rusty worked with them to make them feel safe and loved.

He was just a big kid with a big heart and he enjoyed spending time with the children of family and friends. His nieces and nephews all held special (and protected) places in his heart.

Rusty was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents: Lee and Edith Conklin, Richard C. Lainson Sr., Ralph and Florence Smith.

Rusty is survived by his wife, Geri. His sister Cheri (Don) Chisholm, his brother Rick Lainson, his nieces: Angellita (Chuck) Jones, Christina (Troy) Hazelbaker, Melina Segura and Tori Segura. Rusty has a great nephew Jacob (Lexi) Jones, and great nieces Savannah (Austin) Staley and Evelyn Jones, and 8 great-great nieces/nephews.

Cremation will occur and there will be no formal services held at this time.
