Service Details

Carol Ann Spurgeon dazzled her community with her Halloween decorations and delighted in spoiling her only niece with sleepovers and special Carol Days. But most of all, she was husband Tim’s true love and the “shining star” of their 22-year marriage.
Carol, of Clive, Iowa, was just 53 when she died September 13, 2021, at a hospice in Johnston, Iowa, after lingering illness.

She was born February 17, 1968, in Ida Grove, Iowa, and was raised in Battle Creek, Iowa. A 1986 graduate of Battle Creek High School, Carol participated in a variety of school activities including choir, softball and volleyball. She was captain of the cheerleading squad, a member of the drill team and played drums in the school band. She was also president of the Lutheran Youth Fellowship organization.

During her career, Carol worked for Northwestern Bell in Des Moines, Iowa, between 1991 and 1995 as a directory assistant and at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines she was a respiratory therapist between 1995 and 1999. She was a screening consultant for phone company Century Link, formerly Quest and US West, until 2015 and then was a service delivery consultant. She celebrated her 25th work anniversary with Century Link on December 29, 2019.

On May 8, 1999, Carol married Tim Spurgeon, who survives her. Survivors also include her mother, Janice Stewart of Oklahoma; sister, Amy Fick of South Dakota; and niece, Alexis Bennett of Wisconsin.
