Lawrence "Pat" Haws
October 04, 2021
On October 4, 2021, Lawrence Patrick Haws went peacefully home to Jesus at the age of 81. Pat was born March 12, 1940 in Runnells, Iowa to Lawrence Leonard Haws and Enid Audrey (Warren) Haws. Pat was survived by his wife Carolyn (Lyon) Haws; brothers, Kelly (Deb) Haws, and Mike (Joyce) Haws; son, Matthew Haws; daughters, JoLee Carlisle and Marni (Erik) Bussell; grandchildren, Lucas, Logan, Landen Carlisle, and Emma and Ella Bussell.
Pat graduated from Colo High School and joined the U.S. Navy before his 18th birthday. He served in the Navy as Yoeman Second Class from 1958-1961. Pat married Carolyn Lyon on August 23, 1962 and began a 59 year union of devotion to each other, devotion to their family, devotion to their church communities, and at the center of it all, a lifelong devotion to following Jesus Christ. Pat would always say he was the lucky one, but Carolyn knows she was just as lucky to have Pat. Pat was gentle, loving, kind, generous, humble, and forgiving. All of these, all of the time. He was the spiritual head of the household and loved to study the Bible. Pat loved to joke around and tell stories. He had a way of making anyone he met feel at ease, and I mean anyone-- the bank teller, the fast food attendant, and the stranger lucky enough to be standing in line next to him. He taught by example and knew the joy in doing the right thing over doing the best-thing-for-me thing. He loved his children unconditionally, and his grandchildren even more so. His love for his grandchildren was immeasurable.
After marrying Carolyn, Pat attended Drake University and received a B.B.A. and an M.B.A. all while starting a family. His first job was in Engineering and worked as an Engineer the rest of his career. He was a member of the American Institute of Industrial Engineers (AIIE). One of our favorite jobs he held was with Parker Bros. Games in Des Moines, IA and Salem, MA. In addition to career accomplishments and taking care of his family, Pat enjoyed Skeet shooting, hunting, antiquing, refinishing furniture, and GRANDCHILREN.
Pat's health over the years would slow him down physically, but his love of social interaction, zest for life, and thirst for knowledge kept him pushing to experience all he could! He never wanted to miss a thing. He was always smiling, always optimistic, always put his Hope and Faith in the Lord.
Pat's funeral will be Friday, October 8, 2021 at First Family Church, 317 SE Magazine Road, Ankeny, Iowa, 50021. Family viewing at 12:30, public viewing 1:00, and a 2:00 service, followed by burial service at 4:15 in Runnells, Iowa.
Because of his love of Jesus and commitment to spreading the Gospel, in kind donations may be given to First Family Church Mission Fund.

I met Pat during the Maytag-night school years as a co-worker. What an example of commitment he was -work, study, family all at the same time. We would connect with he and Carolyn only occasionally over the years, but each time they made us feel like we had seen them just yesterday. We pray for your family at this time of loss.

I grew up with Mike as a buddy, spending time with the Haws Family and remembering what a kind and fun big brother Pat was. Its a memory I treasure. My condolences to Mike and to Carolyn and family.
