Sophia Winters

Sophia Winters, 58, passed away October 5, 2021 at Unity Point Health Iowa Methodist Medical Center. She will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, courage, bravery, strength, and faithfulness throughout her entire life.
Sophia was born June 2, 1963 in Des Moines to Joaquin and Josephine (Murillo) Bejarno. She graduated from Lincoln High School. Sophia was a sales manager for various companies over the years. She was a devout Catholic and faithfully prayed the rosary every day. Sophia was a parishioner of St. Anthony Catholic Church and was a member of the Altar & Rosary and CRHP.
In her younger years, she enjoyed playing softball, bike riding and exercising. Sophia loved being in the sun, sunbathing and swimming, something she continued to enjoy as long as she was able. She will long be remembered for her exceptional organizational skills. Her life revolved around her beloved family, especially her granddaughter and most recently, the family dog.
Sophia is survived by her husband, Scott Winters; daughter, Stephanie Burris; granddaughter, Vanessa; siblings, Cathy (Jim) Leaf and Anthony (Alesia) Bejarno; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, infant sister, Mary Bejarno, brothers, Vincent and David Bejarno and sister, Christine Brower.
The family will greet friends Tuesday, October 12, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the Rosary prayed at 7:30 p.m. at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, October 13th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 15 Indianola Avenue.
