Lorna Bingham
October 03, 2021
Lorna Bingham, age 86, passed away Sunday, October 3, 2021.
Lorna was born September 13, 1935 to Carl and Ida Bernahl in Meservy, Iowa on the family farm. She attended school there until the age of ten. In 1945 she moved to Knoxville, Iowa, where she graduated high school. Lorna has been a resident of the Des Moines area for the past 65 years. She lived in California as a younger person due to being a military wife.
Lorna worked in the secretarial, accounting, and banking fields during her working years, most notably for Diamond Labs and Wells Fargo. Lorna retired in 2004. She volunteered her time with the Four Mile Community Center, Blue Ribbon Foundation and with Des Moines Parks & Recreation working on city gardens. She enjoyed camping at the Fair and traveling with her DSM Parks & Rec “team”.
We could write a book about all that Lorna was. She accomplished more in her one lifetime than most would in ten lifetimes.
She is survived by her son, Ricky (Kim Hesser-Bingham); grandchildren, Rob (Katie), Amy (Kelly) Kellogg and Jon Hesser; great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Lexie and Miranda Bingham, Nicolas Hesser Rocha, Victoria Hesser and Teddy Kellogg; and other extended family and friends.
Lorna was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; son, Randall; great-grandson, Randall; parents, Carl and Ida Bernahl; and sister, Erlene Bernahl.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Cremation will follow. Lorna will be buried at Laurel Hill Cemetery with her husband at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be directed to The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation.

Dear Rick, It has been many years but my parents (Gene & Margaret Parrott) were friends with your parents. I remember visiting as a child and thinking your mom was movie-star beautiful. I spoke with her several years ago and she was just as kind and beautiful as I remembered. My deepest sympathy to you and your entire family.
Love and peace

Rick and Kim, Robbie and Katie and grandkids. You truly had a beautiful Mom and Grandmother. I will miss her dearly. She was the kindest soul I've ever met and was the most gracious and wonderful friend. It was my honor to know her. I'm so glad Bob introduced her and Donnie to me. And helped me with Bob when I brought him home to my home. Couldn't of done it without them May God help heal your broken hearts and I pray for her and all of you. Love

The seniors at Fourmile Senior Center have lost a true treasure. Lorna has been a member of our congregate meal site since 2012. She volunteered in the kitchen and helped out with various tasks. She was a member of the card players club here and enjoyed the friendships she gained while she attended.
Lorna was a wonderful woman and was kind to all that she met. She had a warm heart and a smile that could brighten any room. She will be missed by everyone who knew her and the friends she had at Fourmile wish to express their sincerest sympathies to her family during this time.
