Thelma L. Rounds

Thelma Louise Rounds, age 95, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 4, 2021.

Thelma was born on September 13, 1926 in Des Moines, Iowa to Earl Wayne Collins and Beulah Lois (Weatherly) Collins. She met Vernon Gregory Rounds as children and they were married on September 13, 1942 at Bethany Open Bible Church in Des Moines.

After marriage and starting her family, Thelma worked during World War II in manufacturing in support of the war effort. She went on to complete two years of formal education at Open Bible Institute in Des Moines. Thelma worked as a nurse’s aide at Des Moines General Hospital.

Thelma and her husband, Rev. Rounds, were active with Community Chapel and Norwoodville Open Bible Church in Des Moines. Thelma was most recently a member of Heritage Assembly of God Church.

Thelma is survived by her son, Tim Rounds (Diane), six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, eleven great-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-great-grandson. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Vernon in 2008, daughter Colleen Kuhns in 2020, four sisters and one brother.

Services will be held Monday, October 11, 2021 at Heritage Assembly of God Church, 5051 NE 5th Street, Des Moines, IA 50313. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Laurel Hill Cemetery. There will be a reception at the church after the burial.
