Steven Wilson Bewyer "Boo"

Steven Wilson Bewyer, also known as “Boo” passed peacefully at home on September 28, 2021 at the age of 71. Steve was born on January 16, 1950 in Newton, IA to Bette (Bickell) and Willard Bewyer. He graduated from Newton High School in 1968 and married Cathy Knapp on June 4, 1971 while attending college at Truman State (NEMSU), graduating in 1973.
Steve started his career as Program Director at the Newton YMCA. He later joined Maytag Corporation in Quality Control until his retirement in 1999 after a debilitating stroke. He was an active member of the Elk’s Lodge #1270 in Newton and spent most of his time there with his friends. From 1974 to 1977, Steve was offensive line coach for the semi-pro football team, the Newton Nite Hawks. Traveling with the team throughout Europe was a highlight in his life. He remained an avid sports fan his entire life.
When Steve wasn’t at the Elk’s Club, he was spending time with his cherished family. He devoted himself to his children and his grandchildren and was always available to help them in their endeavors and attend all their functions.
This dear man will be greatly missed by his daughters, Gina (Rusty) Vos and Kendra Bewyer; grandchildren, Jayci and Jacki Vos, Trey and Emery Harris; his former spouse, Cathy Knapp; his brothers, Ronnal and Dennis (Barb) Bewyer; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents; his infant daughter, Natalie Nicole; and his sister, Jane Bewyer.
An open house will be held to honor Steve on Sunday, October 3, 2021 from 2 to 4 p.m. at 110 Dawn Avenue in Monroe, Iowa.

My heart goes out to Steves family once again. His stroke was a great obstacle to overcome in life. He helped me through a tough time in my own life. I know he thought the world of his girls!! Your family is in my thoughts and prayers at this time. May he Rest In Peace.

My condolences! Steve helped me very early in my YMCA career as a young program director in Newton. This was after he left the Y, but was always willing to help. A great, kind soul...his memories will live on.
