Cherrie Porter
September 24, 2021
Cherrie Dawn Porter, age 82, passed away Friday, September 24, 2021 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka, Indiana.
Born September 9, 1939 in Des Moines, Iowa to Allen and Jean (Warren) Hick. She recently moved to Indiana to be closer to her daughter, Chantal, who is employed by the University of Notre Dame and travels extensively for her work. Throughout her life, Cherrie was the perfect example of someone who lived life to the fullest. At the drop of a hat, Cherrie would hop on a plane to meet friends and family wherever they were, to share her joyful fun loving personality with anyone who needed her. You were always welcome in her home and she loved playing golf, traveling, watching sports, and following anything related to Notre Dame athletics. She always wanted to be part of the action. Cherrie loved animals, there was always a pet at the house to keep her company. But most of all she loved her prized buddy Murphy. She spent the majority of her career employed at Goodyear Tire and Rubber. During retirement she worked at Sticks Gallery and opened a company with her great friend May.
She is survived by her daughter, Chantal Porter (Aaron Frucci); grandson, Vincent; and many other beloved friends and extended family.
Cherrie was preceded in death by her parents, Alan and Jean Hick; as well as her aunt and uncle, Shirley and Bill O’Brien.
Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m., followed by funeral service at 2:30 p.m., Monday, October 4, 2021 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Burial will take place at Rising Sun Cemetery in Pleasant Hill after the services.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.

We are so very sad to hear of Cherrie's passing. She was a great friend to our aunt Mary Tolly who worked with her at Goodyear for many decades. Cherrie attended many of Mary's "extended family" holiday celebrations over the years. She was always a welcome, positive, and fun addition to our family celebrations. With deepest sympathy.

Dear Chantal and Family - I am so sad at the news of your moms passing. I'm Jean Pollard's daughter and our moms were friends and worked together at Goodyear. So many great memories of your mom and you (I babysat you several times when you were young too) through the many years. She was a wonderful and fun friend and a beautiful person. Sending love and sincere condolences. Prayers for peace.
