John William Balzer

John Balzer, age 84, passed away on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at Lutheran Hospital. He was born the son of Clarence and Mildred (Andersen) Balzer on October 19, 1936 in Des Moines, Iowa.

After graduation, John began working as a truck driver and remained one all of his life. He started at Pat George Trucking then began driving for Sealy Mattress and retired from GTL which was owned and operated by the Pat George family. John was an outdoorsman, he enjoyed travelling and camping at Cutty’s with his family.

He is lovingly survived by his wife of 46 years, Virginia Balzer; son, Bill (Marla) Balzer; daughter, Rhonda (Jeff) Stumpf; grandchildren, Sean (Heather) Balzer, Nichole Stumpf, Shelby Stumpf, Dane Balzer and Hailey Balzer; great-grandchildren, Brixton, Letti, Clara and Sebastian; sisters, Gloria Divis and Janean Allen; beloved dog, Teddy; and a host of extended family and friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents; son, John Balzer; and sister, Mary Kay Duffy.

Celebration of Life will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, October 2, 2021 at Croatian Fraternal Slavic Center, 6575 Indianola Ave, Des Moines.
