Mary Jane Harriott

Mary Jane Harriott, 97, passed away on September 19, 2021, at Senior Suites of Urbandale. She was born in Madrid, Iowa on February 6, 1924 to Sylvester and Otie (Reed) Locke.

Mary attended Madrid High School and later moved to Des Moines with her parents. She met Donal J. Harriott and they married in Philadelphia, PA. Together they had three children. Donal was in the service so they lived in many places. Finally in 1959, they moved back to Des Moines.

She enjoyed reading, puzzle work and knitting. She worked for the Polk County Sheriff’s Department for over 30 years. Mary loved the Lord and spending time with her family and friends.

Mary is survived by her children, John Harriott, Donna Brewer and Frank (Melinda) Harriott; 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donal; brother, Ernest Locke; sister, Winnie Howard; son-in-law, Richard Brewer.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 25, 2021, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines, with burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery. The family will greet friends one hour prior to service time.
