Richard A. Hegna

Service Details

Richard Arthur Hegna found peace in his Lord on Sunday, September 19, 2021, due to complications from pneumonia.

Richard was born December 15, 1943, at Buena Vista Hospital in Storm Lake, Iowa to Arthur and Inez Hegna. He was baptized and confirmed in Little Sioux Valley Lutheran Church, which provided the foundation for a life-long commitment to his faith and the Lord.

On July 11, 1962, he and Joyce (Stroup) were united in marriage, and together they raised four children and many beloved family dogs. He spent his professional career working for Corn Belt Power Cooperative, first in Spencer and then in Humboldt.

Richard was a passionate woodworker, active walker and biker, and skilled handy-man - there was very little he could not make, fix or build. He was the first one to offer assistance to anyone in need, no matter how big or small the project might be, including volunteering with Meals On Wheels. Richard loved dogs, whether they be his own or the neighborhood dogs, he always had a treat to share or time to take them for a walk.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Joyce, daughters Deana Anderson, Jodi (Jeff) Davidson, Charity Hegna (Shane Bales), and son Caleb Hegna. He will also be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Adam (Brittany) Anderson, Kyle (Kasumi) Anderson, Kimberly (Fernando) Paz and Jacob Davidson, five great-grandchildren, sisters Barbara Jackson, Beverly (Jack) Ruff and Sandra (David) Taylor and brother, Robert (Bob) (Ella-Mae) Hegna.

Preceding him in death were his parents, son-in-law Blaine Anderson, brother-in-law Lyle Jackson and his beloved dog, Kirby.

At Richard’s request, there will be no service, instead it is his wish that you help someone in need, take a dog for a walk or attend your church. Gifts in celebration of Richard can be made to the Almost Home Humane Society of North Central Iowa, 725 S 32nd Street, Fort Dodge, IA 50501.
