Gloria Overton

Gloria Jean (McElvogue) Overton born in Des Moines, Iowa on August 2, 1934 to Evelyn and Henry McElvogue, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on September 17, 2021.

Gloria met the love of her life, Russell Overton, at an early age. They were married 61 years and had three wonderful children, Deborah (Overton) Blaskey “Don”, Russell Overton “Debra”, and Cheryl Overton. After raising their own children they lovingly took on the responsibility of helping to raise their granddaughter, Heather (Overton) Franken.Their love helped in creating an additional 5 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 7 great great grandchildren thus far.

When Gloria's children were young she was a Den Mother for Boy Scouts, assisted with the YMCA Youth Choir, and helped the YMCA Bell Ringers. After moving to Coralville, Iowa Gloria found enjoyment working as a medical assistant. In her spare time she also enjoyed painting, bowling, playing Bridge, Cribbage, and spending time with family and friends. Although digressing, Gloria remained steadfast on her love of God, family, and home.

Gloria is preceded in death by her husband, Russell Overton; daughter, Deborah Blaskey; mother, Evelyn Quilliam; stepfather, Albert Quilliam; brother, Hank McElvogue; and father, Henry McElvogue.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 – 2:00 pm on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines. A graveside service will immediately follow the visitation at Avon Cemetery.
