Tom Edward Schreiner

Tom Edward Schreiner, 70, passed away September 10, 2021. Tom was born on October 27, 1950 to Vera (Wilson) and Warren Schreiner in Emmetsburg, Iowa. He grew up in Otley, Iowa and graduated from Pella High School in 1968 and late from Indian Hills Community College with his AS degree in 1990. Tom worked as a truck driver and carpenter in his early years. He later returned to school and spent the balance of his career as a Programmer Analyst for Nationwide Insurance for 26 years until his retirement.

Tom was authentically, unapologetically himself. He never changed his demeanor for anyone. He was truly an example of "what you see is what you get." Genuine, quiet yet talkative about what interested him, laidback and calm. He had a delightfully wicked sense of humor that was a mixture of random silliness and sarcasm. He had a brilliant mind that could fix almost anything. This brought out his fierce independence to figure things out on his own instead of relying on others to fix something or do something for him.

He enjoyed a variety of hobbies including dirt biking, working on cars and dirt bikes, metal and rock concerts with daughter Lindsay, visiting Colorado, playing video games, watching comedies, and most of all, Tom loved spending time with his family. He would randomly stop by just to see how we were doing. He also had an "addiction" for ice cream and sweets in general; he ate ice cream nightly. He even called Lindsay one night to bring him two different flavors in the largest size available and then proceeded to consume a significant portion of each. Although Tom was frugal for himself, he was selfless and reliable when it came to giving to his family and helpful to anyone who needed it.

This beloved man will be greatly missed by his daughters, Meagan (Jason) Dykstra and Lindsay (Tyler Blubaugh) Schreiner; his grandchildren, Caleb Smith, Aiden Smith and Hailey Dykstra; and his brothers, Rex (Becky) Schreiner, Terry (Susie) Schreiner and Mike (Mary) Schreiner.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Jay Schreiner, Bob Schreiner and Phil Schreiner.
