Marilyn Kay Heydon passed away on September 3, 2021. She was born in Carroll, Iowa, on February 27, 1948, to Dale and Ada Smouse.

Marilyn was raised on the family farm in Coon Rapids, Iowa, and graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 1966. On May 4, 1969, she was united in marriage to Steven Heydon at Coon Rapids United Methodist Church. They shared 34 wonderful years together until his passing in March 2004.

Marilyn was a skilled hairstylist. Throughout her working career, she owned a chair at Mr. Joes, Grand Illusions, Entourage, and Estilio Salon and Day Spa.

A devoted, loving and caring wife and mother, Marilyn had a heart of gold and was a friend to all. She cherished time spent with family, friends, and her cats. Marilyn was a great cook, an avid fan of Iowa State athletics, and supporter of Special Olympics and Bondurant-Farrar sports.

Marilyn is survived by her son, Chris (Jenny) Heydon; grandchildren, Grace and Cael Heydon; step-sister, Jean (Ron) Wilson and their sons, Mike and Jeff; special niece, Natalie Hutchinson and her children, Sarah and Matthew; several brothers- and sisters-in-law, as well as other loving nieces and nephews, and many special friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dale and Ada Smouse; step-father, Lynn Loyd; husband, Steven; sister, Carole Honold, and brother-in-law, Jim Honold.

Services will be held on Monday, September 13, 2021, at Farrar United Methodist Church, 11180 NE 134th Avenue, Maxwell, Iowa 50161. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m., with the service to begin at 11 a.m. She will be laid to rest at Franklin Township Cemetery in Santiago, Iowa.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Iowa Special Olympics or Farrar United Methodist Church in loving memory of Marilyn.
