August 30, 2021
Richard Eugene Howard, age 79, of Des Moines passed away Monday, August 30, 2021. He was born on February 1, 1942 in Des Moines, IA. He was the son of Richard L. and Winifred (Pelkey) Howard. On October 12, 1963 he was married to Sherralyn Sease at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Des Moines.
Richard was raised in Des Moines, graduating from Tech High School in 1960. He made a career as a printer and photo editor for the Meredith and RR Donnelly Corporations in Des Moines. In retirement, he drove for the Des Moines Public School District as a bus driver, as did his father.
Richard and Sherralyn moved to the southside of Des Moines to raise their family. Everywhere Richard went, he would either run into a friend or make a new one. He was a kind, generous spirit who cared deeply for his family, friends and community.
He is survived by his loving wife Sherralyn, brother William (Cathy) Howard and sister Sue Schooley. He is also survived by his two daughters Alicia Oxford and Kelli Foltz, five grandchildren Zachary (Cherann) Foltz, Michelle (Ethan) Wilder, Alexis (KC) McKinney, Noah Foltz and Ricky Oxford and one great-grandchild Ballad McKinney.
A celebration of Richard’s life will be held at 1PM on Wednesday, September 8th, 2021 at Hamilton’s Funeral home on Lyon Street. The family will receive visitors from 12pm-1pm.
