Maxine (Marturello) Tyler
September 03, 2021
Maxine (Marturello) Tyler, 96, passed away September 3, 2021, at the Winterset North Care Center.
Maxine was born January 23, 1925, in Des Moines to Frank and Lyndall (Waller) Marturello. She graduated from Lincoln High School.
Maxine married the love of her life, John D. Tyler, after high school and they had three children, Janie, Johnny and Jeff. She was a loving wife and mother.
After her children were grown, she worked in the cafeteria at Lincoln High School as Head Baker and earned the nickname “Big Mac”. She enjoyed talking about her time as a lunch lady and how much she enjoyed her “kids” at the school.
Maxine was a member of First Church of the Open Bible and attended regularly for decades with her family.
Maxine enjoyed cooking, taking care of her family and church. She was fun, full of energy and full of love. She loved to go dancing and roller skating down at the Tromar Ballroom with John many years ago. She also carried on the family of tradition of Sunday dinners and made sure to pass on her rigatoni sauce recipe to her grandchildren.
Maxine was the grandma everyone wishes they had. She spent so much time with her grandchildren and many years of high school plays, dance recitals, softball games, baseball games and a stocked candy drawer in her refrigerator.
Maxine is survived by her two sons, John M. Tyler and Jeff M. (Meg) Tyler; sister, Donna Baker; brother, Frank Marturello; sister-in-law, Luree Marturello; son-in-law, Ronald Grim; seven grandchildren, Carrie (Jason) Davis, Amanda (Scot) Whitlow, Jennifer (Shane) Theis; John (Amanda) Tyler, Maria Tyler, Rachel Tyler and Josie Tyler: seven great-grandchildren, J.T. Davis, Tyler Davis, Shelby Davis, Olivia Whitlow, Grace Whitlow, Hannah Theis and Jordan Theis; 2 great-great-grandchildren, Lea Whitlow and Logan Whitlow; many nieces and nephews and a host of extended family and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John D. Tyler; daughter, Jane Grim; sister, Katherine Strayer and two brothers, Joe Marturello and John Marturello.
The family will greet friends from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, September 12, 2021 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 13th at the funeral home. Maxine will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

So sorry for your loss. I have so many wonderful memories of times at aunt Maxine and uncle John's house. The wonderful smells form a pot of red sauce she was cooking.
My prayers are with you and your family.

Maxine was a fun loving woman with an infectious laugh and smile. She made the best chocolate chips cookies. Our families shared countless happy times together. I am so very grateful to have received her love and warm hugs. Rest in peace honey with John.
