Larry Eugene Quinn, Jr. Of Des Moines, Iowa

Larry Eugene Quinn Jr., age 41, died unexpectedly from natural causes on Thursday, August 26, 2021. Services will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines, IA 50266. The family will greet friends from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 1, 2021, with the funeral service following at 10:00 a.m. Burial, with military honors, will follow at 12:30 p.m., at Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Van Meter, Iowa. Due to COVID pre-cautionary measures and to keep everyone safe, masks are required to be worn regardless of vaccination status. Larry was born on July 10, 1980 to Marvella H. Mure and Larry E. Quinn. He was raised in the Des Moines area by his mother and father, Henry “Jim” Holland Jr. and surrounded by family and friends. From the time Larry was a child, he spent as much time as possible with his second family, James “Mr. Andy” and Theresa Anderson and their children Joshua and Kelly at their home in the country.

Larry graduated from Urbandale High School in the class of 1999. Following graduation, he enrolled at Des Moines Area Community College to further his studies. In 2008, Larry enlisted in the Military and served in the Iowa Army National Guard. During his tenure, Larry served as an Ammunition Specialist in Afghanistan. While proudly serving his country, Larry became medically disabled and was later honorably discharged.

Throughout school, Larry was involved in a wide variety of sports activities including: track & field, football, baseball, basketball and he even tried his hand at golf. Larry was a sports enthusiast! He loved watching NFL football and was a Minnesota Vikings fanatic! Larry was a talented cook who loved cooking and creating meals for others.

Above all else, Larry loved his children and was a very proud dad. Over the past few years, Larry developed a special connection with his uncle, Walter “Udell” Mure, with whom he shared time fishing and going to church. Over the years, Larry had many dogs that he adored but especially King, who remained by his side up until the very end. Larry’s family and friends were incredibly important to him and he was very protective of all of them. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving children, Amyah Shadae Quinn, Olyvia Brooklyn Scovel, and Larry Eugene Quinn III; mother, Marvella Mure Holland; fathers, Henry “Jim” Holland Jr. and Larry (Denise) Quinn; grandmother, Marvella C. Mure; siblings, Rocquel Quinn, Markisha (Chad Jr.) Suggs, and Uriah Holland; sister-in-law, Laura Quinn; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other loving family members.

Larry was preceded in death by his brothers, Antonio Quinn and Kenneth Quinn; and grandparents, Jack Mure, Henry and Beulah Holland Sr., Norma Mae Fountain, and Gerald James.
