Service Details

Richard “Rick” Eyerly Jr., 59, passed away August 20, 2021. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 27, 2021 at Westkirk Presbyterian Church, 2700 Colby Woods Drive in Urbandale, IA with visitation on Thursday, August 26 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines.

Rick was born December 3, 1961 in Des Moines, IA to Richard Eyerly, Sr. and Carmen “Elaine” Hill Eyerly. Rick grew up in the Des Moines area and was a proud graduate of Roosevelt High School. Rick started his career with Hy-Vee and quickly elevated to management. He was exceptionally proud of his “produce pro” status shining in several locations such as Des Moines, IA, Tarkio, MO, and Omaha, NE. After seventeen years at Hy-Vee, his entrepreneurial spirit led him to various business opportunities, finally landing him his one true love of selling real estate. First, in Council Bluffs at Key Real Estate and upon his return home, to Des Moines in 1999 to Coldwell Banker and finally ReMax. Rick’s 30-year love for real estate earned him the title of Master Negotiator among those who knew him best.

Rick loved his Savior and sought to deepen his relationship with Him. Rick was a past Deacon, Elder, and Stephen Ministry leader of Westkirk Presbyterian Church. Rick was a devoted husband. He and Carolyn enjoyed many laughs, projects, and adventures together including but not limited to owning and operating Ankeny and Waukee Auto Spas. Rick often would say his greatest accomplishments were his girls and he loved spending time with family, inventing games, and coordinating activities to keep everyone entertained. His competitive nature was not only infectious but always triumphed.

Rick was the perfect example of living life to the fullest and a man of many interests. Rick enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, sports, the Packers and the Hawkeyes, racing, boating, riding the big Red Tomato, lake life, vacations, and more recently, discovered the joy of coin collecting.

Rick is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn; daughters, Ashley (Tim) Fletchall and Olivia (Ben) Eyerly; grandchildren, Ava and Andrew Fletchall; his mother, Elaine Hill; sister, Lori (Todd) Breiholz; and nieces, Grace Breiholz and Faith Breiholz.

Rick was preceded in death by his father, Richard Eyerly, Sr. and his grandparents.

“…And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out this love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.” Romans 5:2-5
