Juanita Stroud

Juanita Ruth Stroud, age 92, passed away in the early morning hours on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 with loved ones by her side. Juanita was born August 27, 1928 in Des Moines, Iowa to Robert and Goldena (Clarkson) Faler. In her more than nine decades of life, Juanita devoted herself to God and the teachings of Jesus Christ. Juanita’s devotion to the Christian values of love and charity was exemplified through her dedication to family, friends, church, and community.

After attending Woodside High School for three years, Juanita completed her final year of education at East High School in Des Moines. In 1946, Juanita married her first husband Lawrence Lynde, who she had known since seventh grade. While the marriage provided Juanita with her first two children, the marriage itself proved unsuccessful, resulting in their eventual separation. However, this led to Juanita finding the true love of her life, Carl Stroud – a co-worker of hers at Firestone in Des Moines. On November 25th, 1955 in Lancaster, Missouri Juanita and Carl were wed and began their life together. In Carl, Juanita said she found the kind, helpful, and loving husband she had always wanted.

After six years of working outside the home, Juanita returned to being a homemaker to take care of the couple’s growing family. Throughout her life, in times both good and bad, Juanita never lost faith in God and never strayed from the teachings of Jesus. This devotion to her faith was evident to everyone who was fortunate enough to share a part of her life, especially her family. Juanita’s dedication to her Christian beliefs also led to her being a member of the Bethany Reformed Church for more than fifty years.

In her life, Juanita was also a dedicated fan of Chicago Cubs baseball and Iowa Hawkeyes basketball. Other hobbies included reading, following politics, and spending time playing scrabble with family and friends.

Juanita is survived by five children Laura Johnson, Diane Harrington, Andrew Stroud, Shelley Mogck, and JoAnne Peer; 23 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and 40 great-great-grandchildren. Juanita was preceded in death by her father, Robert Faler; mother, Goldena Faler; husband, Carl Stroud; son, Steven Lynde; son, Scott Stroud; and step-sons, Jim Stroud and Mike Stroud.

A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, August 20th, 2021 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines, IA 50313. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 21st, 2021 at Bethany Reformed Church, 720 NE 52nd Ave., Des Moines, IA 50313. A reception will immediately follow the ceremony. A burial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Monday, August 23rd, 2021 at Highland Memory Gardens, 1 NE 60th Ave., Des Moines, IA 50313.
