Judy Moss

Judy Ann Moss was born July 15, 1946 in Des Moines, Iowa to Harry and Bonnie (Longsdale) Story. Judy passed away peacefully in her sleep Saturday morning and gained her wings. As much as it hurts us all she is no longer in pain and no longer suffering. She recently had a second amputation and her heart was just simply not strong enough to recoup a second time. She is somewhere standing on both of her legs watching all of us and smiling ear to ear that she is no longer at the nursing home. She loved her children, grandchildren and sister very much and talked about them all the time. She also loved B.I.N.G.O., Yahtzee, playing cards and a thick cut Iowa chop. She passed the time recently watching Tim “The Tool Man” and eating her fair share of mints, fruit slices and ice cream any time she could. She will definitely be missed by all.

She is survived by her children, LeAnn Burgett (Tom), Jack VanZee, and Melissa Byrkett; grandchildren, Joseph (Abigail) Byrkett, Jennifer (Justin) Grafton, Joshua Eiklenborg, Jeffrey Byrkett, Christine Moss, Destanie Moss and Haylie Moss; great-grandchildren, JR, Isabella, Anastasia, Ailah, and Oaklee; and her sister, Sandra Brown.

Judy was preceded in death by her son, James Moss, Jr.; and sisters, Shirley Lawrence and Sharon Stowers.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral will take place at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 19, 2021, also at Hamilton’s, followed by burial at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
