Sandra Sue Maxfield, 76, passed away on August 6, 2021, at Trinity Center at Luther Park-Des Moines. She was born April 26, 1945, to David and Betty (Peterson) Weaver.

Sandy spent her early years on the family farm near Conrad, where she enjoyed playing cowboys and Indians with her brothers, Tom and Davey. After Davey’s death, the family moved to Marshalltown, Iowa, where Sandy graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1963. She was active in chorus and loved to write. On September 4, 1964, she married her high school sweetheart, Ronald Maxfield. Together, they had three children: Cheney, Mandy, and Stacey.

The family moved to Des Moines in 1979 where she and Ron owned and managed Crazy Horse Gallery. Sandy also did custom framing for the business. In 1987, they purchased an art gallery in Richardson, Texas, and relocated to McKinney. In addition to managing the family business, Sandy also worked in research and development, bookkeeping, and estate sales. She enjoyed the warmer winters in Texas for 34 years. She returned to Iowa just recently after becoming ill.

Sandy enjoyed tending her flowers, vacations to the mountains, hiking, and watching the wildlife in her backyard. She especially enjoyed the tailless squirrel she affectionately named “Stumpy.” Above all else, Sandy cherished her family and their time spent together.

Sandy is survived by her daughter, Mandy (Russ) Gist; sisters, Jill Warrick and Bonnie Weaver; grandchildren, Emily (Thomas) Luke, Brandon Howe, and Zoe Meister; and great-granddaughter, Rina Luke; as well as other loving family and many special friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ronald Maxfield; brothers, Tom Weaver and Davey Weaver; son, Cheney Maxfield, and daughter, Stacey (Eric) Meister.
