Service Details

Franklin Delano Stewart, 88, passed away at Trinity Center at Luther Park on August 4, 2021. The youngest of six children, he was born in Gray, Iowa, on January 30, 1933, to Frederick and Ella Stewart.

A memorial graveside service will be held at Iowa Veterans Cemetery at a later date.

Before high school graduation, Franklin enlisted in the Army. He served during the Korean Conflict and received the Purple Heart prior to his honorable discharge. Following the service, he obtained his GED and attended AIB where he received an associate’s degree. Franklin owned and operated Mid-States Safety Shoe Service in Des Moines until his retirement in 1985.

Franklin enjoyed the outdoors, particularly working in his yard, mowing, and gardening. He also enjoyed tinkering in his garage and repurposing items. Above all else, Franklin cherished time spent with his family and loved ones.

Franklin is survived by his children, Michael (Vinnie) Stewart, Susan (Doyle II) Moon, and Steven (Kim) Stewart; grandchildren, Wesley, Stephanie, Phillip; great-granddaughter, Michelle; several cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as other loving family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife in 2018, Mary Ann Stewart; grandson, Doyle W. Moon III; and his siblings, Lois, Frances, Elaine, Stresley, and Claudia.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association in loving memory of Franklin.
