Matthew Petersen, 44, passed away on August 5, 2021. He was born on July 2, 1977 in Minneapolis to Kermit and Linda (MacDonald) Petersen.
Matt worked for many years at Grinnell Mutual and was very outgoing and social. He enjoyed being around people and participating in different fundraisers to give back. Matt’s greatest joy in life was being a father. He was incredibly devoted to his boys and put their needs before his.
He is survived by his children, Ayden and Zayne Petersen; mother, Linda Nikkel; siblings, Dean (Natalie) Petersen, Kevin (Jennifer) Ozias and Mark (Lisa) Ozias; step-mother, Linda Petersen; grandmother, Helen MacDonald; several aunts, uncles, extended relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by father, Kermit; step-father, Earll Nikkel.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, August 15, 2021 at Sam’s Sports Bar and Grill, 3160 8th St SW, Suite P, Altoona.
Memorials may be directed to his family for his boys’ education.

We are so very sorry to hear of Matt's passing. Matt and I had many good & funny conversations through the years working at Grinnell Mutual. Almost always Matt talked of his boys; he loved and cared for them so much. Of the many things I will remember about Matt; he had that rare ability and gift of his Extension of Care from him to you. A sincere, yet very funny person!! Matt will be greatly missed here at GM. Our thoughts, love and prayers are with his boys and family.

My heart is saddened with the news of Matt's passing. It just doesn't feel real. Enjoyed the times of laughter and Matt's great sense of humor. I can still hear his laugh or him making a sarcastic comment. My thoughts are with his boys and family. He will truly be missed.

I am so sorry to hear of Matt's passing. I work for Grinnell Mutual in Nebraska so I had a chance to see Matt a couple of times each year for our meetings at the home office. Matt's sense of humor was unparalleled and I was always amazed at his technical expertise. He will be missed by all. Prayers for comfort to the family.

Matt was one of the first people I met after my orientation at Grinnell Mutual. What a guy to meet! He made just being in his presence fun! Matt has left quite a few memories. I hope you'll find comfort and, someday, joy in the love and memories of Matt your hearts will always hold onto. They are the treasure of Matt.
