Elizabeth Burns

Elizabeth May Burns, 91, passed away on October 6, 2009. A visitation will be held on Friday, October 9, 2009 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines. Funeral services will be on Saturday, October 10, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Plymouth Congregational Church in Des Moines.

Elizabeth was born on December 13, 1917 in Des Moines to Frank and Mae Keates. She married L. Rex Burns in 1936 and they had 64 wonderful years together. Elizabeth was a homemaker and enjoyed many hobbies including purse making, sewing, baking, antiques and reading. Elizabeth was also active in West Des Moines Womens Club, PEO Chapter KN, Antiquist II and Questers.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandi McCleary; son, Rich (Dixie) Burns; sister Esther Beem of St. Louis, MO, 9 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and infant sister.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Iowa Food Bank, Blank Children’s Hospital or Plymouth Congregational Church.
