Robert C. Russell

Robert C. Russell, 86, was received into God’s loving arms at Taylor House Hospice on August 3, 2021.

Robert was born May 23, 1935, in Des Moines. He graduated from Lincoln High School. Robert served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957. He married Jane A. Abbott on September 5, 1959. Robert retired in 1994 from Iowa Power.

He was a drummer in the Army and played in many different bands around the Des Moines area in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. Robert’s hobbies included golf, gardening and fishing. He caught many trophy fish over the years.

Robert is survived by his son, Robert C. Russell, II and his wife, Karen of Des Moines; granddaughter, Mandy (Jesse) Wambold; grandson, Robert C. Russell III; and great-grandchild, Asher Wambold, all of Des Moines; nephew, Robin L. Russell of West Fallis, WI; and niece, Carrie S. Russell of Washington, DC.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane; brother, Ray L. Russell; and his parents, Ray and Gladys Russell.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Taylor House Hospice for their loving care of Robert. Also, friend Tom Crawford and many of his neighbors over the past few years.

The family will greet friends Saturday, August 14, 2021 from 10 am to 11 am at Resthaven Mausoleum in West Des Moines. A private family entombment will take place at Resthaven Mausoleum.
