Matthew Eric Barsness

Matt passed from this life after a 4-year battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Matt was born to Eric and Judy Barsness in Mason City, Iowa in 1972. Matt was a student at Mason City High School until his sophomore year, his family moved to the Quad Cities where he graduated from Pleasant Valley High School in 1991.

Taking his education further he graduated with a BA in Business from Buena Vista University.
After college Matt began raising his family with working at Hussey and Company in Mason City.

Matt moved several times within Iowa finally calling Johnston Iowa his home. He was a true salesman at heart working in the Heavy Duty AG & Trucking Industries throughout his career.

Matt enjoyed being raised in Mason City with his older sister Susan Stoffer (Barsness), they had a typical brother – sister relationship of driving each other crazy while creating fun memories. Their sibling relationship grew into a wonderful friendship that they both cherish. Matt was extremely blessed to have an outstanding relationship with Sue.

Matt’s shinning stars are his kids Josie, Jack, Addy and Lulu. His children brought him joy attending their sporting events, taking them boating, bonfires and just joking around with them. Spending time with them was his main enjoyment.
Matt also valued friendships and shared several memories with his friends, John Stoffer’s family, several loving aunts/uncles & cousins, & Dan/Rosie Hussey.

Matt was preceded in death by his father Eric Barsness and Grandparents Leon & Beula Barsness and Jim & Verna Smith. Matt is survived by his loving & caring mother Judy Barsness; his four children Josie (Josephine) 21, Jack (Jackson) 18, Addy (Addeline) 12, Lulu (Alexandria) 12 along with his sister Sue & her family, and former wife Annette Hussey.
