Vergie Collins
July 22, 2021
Vergie Collins, age 79, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her own home on Thursday, July 22, 2021 with her family by her side.
Vergie was born December 4, 1941 in Fort Dodge, Iowa to William and Elcena (Tjaden) Pageler. She has lived in the Des Moines area for most of her adult life with the exception of a short time in Japan and Seattle, Washington. Vergie worked in the secretarial field for the Des Moines Public School system during her working years.
Vergie was dedicated to her family and was a loving mother and grandmother. She adored her grandchildren and was very protective of her grandson, Cody, with whom she was very close. She was proudly independent and stubborn in the best possible way. She loved gardening, dancing, and watching the Price is Right. She collected cat figurines and her favorite color was purple.
She is survived by her children, Tim Collins (Diana), Christin de la Rosa, and Michelle Collins; former husband, Charles Collins; grandchildren, Kyle, Cody, Brooke, Niko, Hunter, and Brandon; sisters, Amber Lightfoot (John) and Roberta Buenting (Howard); nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
Vergie was preceded in death by her parents, William and Elcena Pageler; and her sisters, Naomi Breiner, Rosalie Pageler, and Marilyn Young.
Tim, Chris, and Michelle extend their heartfelt appreciation to Nicholas “Niko” de la Rosa for his exceptional loving care of Vergie that enabled her to remain in her own home, to stay safe during the pandemic, and enriched the quality of her life for the last 18 months.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Cait, Tiffany, and the staff of Hospice of the Midwest for their compassionate care of Vergie.
Contributions may be directed to the Food Bank of Iowa in loving memory of Vergie.

Our sincere condolences to all of Vergies family. We enjoyed a friendship with Vergie and her family for many years. Following our children around the country together to watch them compete in speed skating. Those were great times. Thank you Vergie for your valued friendship. The Bakers
