Earl Suggett

Earl Marshall Suggett, 89, was born on February 22, 1920 in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the son of George and Lola (Garrett) Suggett. He passed away peacefully Monday, October 5, 2009 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.
He married Betty Jane Taylor on June 15, 1943 and was married for 47 years. He graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1938. Earl enlisted into the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II, piloted B-24 bombers and flew 50 missions. He was a member of the Masonic lodge. He worked in Marshalltown for Fischer Controls and the US Postal Service. Earl retired as an underwriting vice-president for Hawkeye Security Insurance Company in Des Moines.
He lived in Altoona for 48 years and has resided at the Lodge of Ashworth in West Des Moines, IA for the past two years. Earl wintered in Mission, Texas for the past 15 years and was an avid golfer, walleye fisherman and pool shark.
Earl was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and will be missed greatly. He is survived by his son, Michael (Carolyn) Suggett of Pleasant Hill; daughter, Pattie (Kenneth) Maki of Coon Rapids, Minnesota; grandchildren, Amanda (Mark) of St. Cloud, Minnesota, David of St. Louis Park, Minnesota, Patrick of St. Cloud, Minnesota; Chad (Jennifer) of St. Francis, Minnesota and Scott (Erin) of Andover, Minnesota; great-grandchildren, Raymond, Layla and Carter. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty Suggett; his parents and three sisters, Mildred Carson, Georgia Willard and Patricia Grabenbauer.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 9, 2009, at the Altoona Christian Church, 2890 1st Avenue South in Altoona, with burial to follow at the Altoona Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, October 8, 2009, at Hamilton's Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW in Altoona.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Mercy Hospice Johnston, Iowa in loving memory of Earl.
