Marilyn Park
July 15, 2021
Marilyn Ruth Park, 77, passed away on July 16, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. Her family knows that Marilyn is now reunited with her husband, Bill in heaven where they will be together forever. Marilyn was born the daughter of Michael and Marian (Clough) Leo on November 25, 1943.
She graduated from Lincoln High School in the January Class of 1962 and attended Grandview University. On July 11, 1964 she married the love of her life, Bill Park. She took pride in her Italian Heritage and being from the “South Side” of Des Moines. She worked as a preschool teacher at Wakonda Preschool. She then worked for Equitable of Iowa for many years. After retiring from Equitable she wanted to stay active and worked at J.C. Penny on the south side. Marilyn loved watching Iowa State, Iowa and Drake college sports. While not watching or discussing sports she enjoyed doing puzzles, watching movies and reading. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. When her children were younger, she loved to volunteer at all of their activities. She never missed an event for her children. When she became a grandmother that tradition continued. No matter the weather or how far out of town the event was she never missed it.
She is survived by her children, David (Christine) Park and RaeLynn (Bill) Von der Linde; grandchildren, Rachel (Caleb) Sundt, Derrick Park, Kyle Von der Linde, Alicia Park, Kade Von der Linde, and Kallie Von der Linde; great-grandchild, Ruby and one on the way; sister, Ginger Leo; brother, Michael (Debbie Schroder) Leo; and her nephew and niece, Kevin Ogden and Katy (Jerrod) Long; and multiple other loving family members.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Park; and parents, Michael and Marian (Clough) Leo.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 21 2021, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, Iowa. A funeral service will take place the following day, Thursday, July 22, 2021 at 10 a.m. at Central Presbyterian Church, 3829 Grand Avenue, Des Moines. Burial to follow at Elm Grove Cemetery with luncheon reception back at Central Presbyterian Church.

Marilyn and I met each other while attending our husbands Reames Noodles games in the 60s and 70s. Marilyn and I were expecting our babies at the same time.
That was such a great time in our lives.
Marilyn lost her sweet husband Biil too early. We lost touch, but I
know that Marilyn loved and missed Bill so much. Now she is with the love of her life. Rest In Peace Marilyn. Tell my husband Dick hi for me.
