Maureen Burke

Maureen Marie (Baker) Burke, was born November 4, 1956 to Ray Edward and Georgia (Danford) Baker. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family Sunday, July 18, 2021 at Mercy One Hospice Johnston.

Maureen attended Brooks Elementary School, St. Peters Catholic School and Wilson Junior High before graduating from East High School in 1975. She then went on to earn her Associates Degree in nursing from DMACC. Maureen married Doug Burke and they were blessed with two sons. She retired as an RN after 30 years of faithful service.

In addition to her parents, Maureen was preceded in death by her brother, Tim, and granddaughter Sydney. She is survived by her husband, Doug of Altoona; sons, Brian (Amber) of Altoona and Jason (Alicia) of Pleasant Hill; her beloved grandchildren, Chase, Kasey, Harper and Keaton; siblings, Madonna (Dwight) Smith of Tabor, Dennis (Paula) of Des Moines, Kevin (Sandy) of Des Moines, Karen Clark of Council Bluffs and Colleen Baker (Scott Hinshaw) of Pleasant Hill; other loving relatives and many special friends, including her dear friends at the Elks Lodge where she was a doe (Does Drove #25).

The family will greet friends from 5-8pm Thursday, July 22, 2021 at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th St SW. Funeral services will be held at 10am Friday, July 23, 2021 at the funeral home with burial to follow at Rising Sun Cemetery.
