Houng “Roger” Rasavanh was born February 7, 1945. He passed away at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines on July 13, 2021.

Houng was born and raised in Vietnam and later moved to Laos. He then attended college in France and in the 1980s, moved to the United States.

Houng worked at Amoco and retired from Briggs Industries in 2013. He was an active member of the Tai Village where he was former President of the Board.

Houng enjoyed photography, video recording, and music, especially writing and producing, and playing ping-pong.

Houng is survived by his wife, Bang Rasavanh; mother, Neth Lo Rasavanh; sons, Patrick (Rebecca) Kouang and David Kouang; grandchildren: Abigail Smith, Joseph Smith, Daniel Smith, Andrew Kochuyt, and Ian Kouang; great-grandchildren, Miles and Addison; brothers, Jim Rasavanh, Boun (Som) Rasavanh, and Mike (Dara) Rasavanh; his sisters, Phaymone Low, Chanda Cavan, and Sue (Sang) Ip, as well as a host of other loving family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, La Quang Rasavanh, and brother-in-law, Khouane “Henry” Cavan.

Services will be held on Saturday, July 17, 2021, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave. in Des Moines. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., with the service to begin at 3:00 p.m.
