Tonya Sitzmann
July 12, 2021
Tonya Kay Sitzmann, 49, went home to her Lord and Savior on July 12, 2021. Born on May 23, 1972 in Atlantic, Iowa to Paula Kay (Sams) and Crest Stuart Jones, Tonya graduated from Stuart-Menlo High School in 1990 and DMACC as a Certified Medical Assistant in 1992.
Tonya lived a full life and pursued a variety of activities and acts of service. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Home & School Board, and a frequent volunteer for Dorothy’s House, a charity dedicated to helping survivors of human trafficking. She was devoted to her friends and family and supported her daughters at their sporting events and all other activities.
Tonya was known for her great sense of humor, and for playing practical jokes on her friends and family. She was a marathon runner and loved to keep active. She was an avid sports fan, supporting Iowa State athletics and Barcelona and Liverpool soccer clubs. She could be found frequently sitting on her back porch and reading. She loved watching documentaries and keeping her mind sharp. Her kind heart led her to help others whenever possible, and she brought warmth and comfort to any person she met. Her faith in Christ was strong and guided all of her actions.
She is survived by her husband, Ed; her daughters, Betsy (Jesse) Pieper-Ledbetter and Mary Sitzmann; her mother, Paula K. MacArthur; her father, Crest (Shirley) Jones; brother, Aaron Stuart (Wendy) Jones; sisters and brothers-in-law, Paula (Mark) McCaulley, Ronda (Mark) Roby, Marda Mayhan, Gaylene (Paul) Kestel, Rob (Rebecca) Sitzmann, Donna (Jim) Pittman, Nadine (Doug) Harskamp, and Jay (Shannon) Sitzmann; her best friend, Jaci (Darin) Tebbe; and many other family members and friends.
Services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1627 Grand Ave. in West Des Moines, Iowa with visitation Friday, July 16 from 4 to 7 pm, with a rosary at 7pm lead by her brother-in-law, Deacon Paul Kestel. The funeral Mass on Saturday, July 17 at 10 am with a luncheon to follow. Private burial will be at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.

I am sorry for you loss, Tonya was a very special person. I remember her as a little girl with the most amazing lung capacity for crying when her mom left the room, as someone who would eat every pickle on the relish tray before dinner, to a suddenly grown wife and mother who was as strong as individual as I have ever met. I wish that I could have spent more time with her, she just had a knack for making people feel special. We were luck that God decided to share her. Ed, Betsy, Mary, Paula, and Arron you have my deepest sympathy for your loss, Tonya may be gone but as long we are around she will never be forgotten.
