Carolyn Anne Shaffer

Carolyn Anne Shaffer, age 77, passed away Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at Lake Regional Health Systems in Osage Beach, MO.

Carolyn was born October 2, 1943 in Des Moines, Iowa to Paul and Evelyn (Kehrer) Haney. She graduated from East High School in Des Moines in 1962. After graduation, Carolyn worked as a bank teller for a while. She went on to co-found Air-Con Mechanical in 1983, from where she retired in 2012.

Carolyn was united in marriage to James “Jim” Shaffer on July 24, 1964 in Des Moines, and they honeymooned in Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri. The Ozarks always held a special place in her heart and they enjoyed their second home there, whether it was spending time with family or boating, she loved it all. Carolyn’s grandchildren were her pride and joy and she enjoyed attending all of their activities. She also enjoyed antiquing with her husband, Jim, in her free time. Carolyn was a wonderful cook and was known for her homemade noodles, apple pie, and her holiday cookies. She was a member of the Hawkeye Classic Thunderbird Club.

She is survived by her husband, Jim; children, Jim (Jill) Shaffer, Julie (Brian) Hoey, and Jeff (Renee) Shaffer; ten grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Evelyn Haney; and her sister, Linda Ackley.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 11, 2021 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Monday, July 12, 2021, also at Hamilton’s, and will be followed by burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
