Michelle (Shelly) Starrett

Shelly Starrett, age 66, passed away Saturday, July 3, 2021 at Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Shelly was born August 20, 1954 to Arthur and Joyce Starrett. She lived with her grandmother and mother until moving to Woodward State Hospital-School in 1964. In July 1990 she moved to Behavioral Technologies in Des Moines where she resided until her death.

Shelly enjoyed her housemates and staff, going out to eat (especially McDonalds), facility dances, holiday parties, and working on her puzzles. Before retiring, Shelly enjoyed working at Des Moines Bolt.

She is survived by her sister, Kim Stroup of Minnesota. She leaves many caregivers and friends behind who will always hold a special place in their hearts for Shelly.

Shelly was preceded in death by her grandparents and mother.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Burial will take place on Monday, July 12, 2021 at 5:30 p.m. at Avon Cemetery, Des Moines.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to Ronald McDonald House in loving memory of Shelly.
