Sandra Kay Simmons

Sandra Kay Simmons, 79, passed away peacefully at home on Monday June 28, 2021. She was born in Iowa City, Iowa, on March 7, 1942, the daughter of Charles and Leta Burgett.

Sandra was united in marriage to Louis H. Simmons, Sr. in Des Moines, Iowa, and they shared many wonderful years together until his passing in 2012.

Sandra worked as an EMT for Delaware Township Fire and Rescue and attended Easton Baptist Church.

Sandra enjoyed crocheting, woodworking, and tending to her yard. Above all else, she cherished time spent with her loved ones.

Sandra is survived by her daughters, Renae (Gary) Newport, Sherry (Larry) Marean, Deb Conwell-Cole, and Bobbie (Tony) Short; 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; as well as a host of other family and beloved friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Simmons, Sr.; son, Louis Simmons, Jr.; and a son-in-law, Pete Conwell.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 2, 2021, at Easton Baptist Church, 5075 NE 23rd Avenue in Des Moines, with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Easton Baptist Church in loving memory of Sandra.
