Service Details

Marjorie “Margie” Ann Schwandt, 85, went to be with our Heavenly Father on Monday, June 28, 2021 at Genesis Senior Living in Des Moines. She was born October 18, 1935 to Eben and Dorothy Rinker. After Eben’s death when Margie was 3 years old, Dorothy married Bob Arthur, Sr.

Margie grew up in Grand Junction and moved to Waterloo when she was 13 years old. She graduated from West High School and earned her associates degree from Hawkeye Community College. Margie married Rodney Reinertson on November 1, 1953 and they had three children. They divorced after 11 years. She married Harold McLeish, Jr. on Labor Day 1964 and had a son. They were married until his death in July 1993.

Margie married John Richard “Dick” Schwandt on June 25, 1995 and they soon afterwards retired and vacationed in Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. After they sold their home, they became fulltime RVers, travelling around the country until they settled in Mission, TX. Margie liked the “tropical” weather of Texas. She returned to Iowa in January 2013 after Dick’s passing in April 2012.

Margie was a proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous with a recovery date of February 1, 1978 and was also a breast cancer survivor.

Margie is survived by her children, Rod (Elaine) Reinertson, Darcey (Jim) Widmann, Randy (Foon) Reinertson, and Michael “Mike” (Janell) McLeish; step-children, Rebecca (Kathy) McLeish, Marc McLeish, and Doug Schwandt; grandchildren, Sara, Heather, Derek, Lea, Crystal, JD, Steven, Scottie, Stephanie, Shannon, Sean, Tyler, Samantha, Jesse, Tiffany, and Jarrod; 22 great-grandchildren; siblings, Richard Arthur, Judy Core, and Margaret Ann Hogue; lifelong best friend, Caroline Hendrickson; her loyal and loved Yorkie, Missy; and a host of other family and beloved friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Dick; brothers, Buddy Rinker, Bob Arthur, and John "Jackie" Arthur; and step-son, Chris McLeish.

A private family burial will be held at Berwick Cemetery in July.
