Esther Mehalovich
Des Moines
Esther (Goebel) Mehalovich, age 88, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 24, 2021 at Valley View Village in Des Moines surrounded by her family.
Esther was born October 12, 1932 in Bussey, Iowa to Wilbur O. and Mary Elizabeth (Lindly) Goebel. She graduated from Knoxville High School and earned a degree in Elementary Education from Iowa State University in 1984.
While raising eight children, Esther volunteered as a religious education teacher and was a sponsor for new immigrant families in Iowa. She taught in the Des Moines area for many years.
In her retirement, Esther enjoyed time with her children and grandchildren. She treasured every family event, holiday and celebration. The antics and fun of big families made each gathering joyful and there always seemed to be a new grandchild or great grandchild on the way!
Esther is survived by her children, Tom Mehalovich, Janice Tucker, Jean (Michael)
Moran, Debra (Dale) Smith, Mary Jo Kever, Jerry Mehalovich, Tim Mehalovich, and John (Michelle) Mehalovich; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brothers Howard Goebel, Harold Goebel and David Goebel, her sister Marjorie (Goebel) Laird and her grandson Michael Mehalovich.
A private family service and celebration of life are planned for at a later time.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Valley View Village and Hospice of the Midwest for their compassionate care and dedication. Memorial contributions may be directed to either Valley View Village or Hospice of the Midwest.

I remember Esther from my years going to Visitation Catholic School (Holy Family School, now,) in the mid- late 70s. She was a neat lady! My thoughts and prayers to her family.
